Hello world!
This is my personal website.
About Me
I’m a nerd. I’m interested in:
- software engineering – checkout my Github
- electronic engineering – some of this also on Github
- mechanical engineering – I’ll share some designs here and on Autodesk 360 soon.
- machining – YouTube Channel
Work History
I have worked in SMEs as well as government and carrier telecommunications environments, and in education mentoring students in engineering principles and developing NESA accredited coursework for teacher training. Positions I have held include:
- Computing:
- Junior network support
- Systems analyst
- UNIX administrator
- Field support engineer
- Systems engineer
- Education:
- Lab demonstrator
- Education consultant
Robotics
I have been a FIRST robotics mentor to high school students for 8 years in
FLL
, FTC
and FRC
, and a robot inspector in FTC
and FRC
both at
national and world championship events. My proudest achievement here is when
my team, The Drop Bears were game finalists in one of the 2018 Sydney Regionals
using a drive train I had worked closely with several young engineers to
develop and build.
Machining
A long time ago I wanted to make circuit boards. I saw some 2.5 axis autorouters (the Chinese 3020 style machines) and thought they’d be perfect. They were new to the market at the time, and so I asked a family member their thoughts. I was promptly insulted and given the awful advice to buy a milling machine and put that through a CNC retrofit. More than 5 years and more than half a tonne of cast iron purchased later, I still haven’t made a circuit board, but I’ve gained a new hobby, learned some new skills and made some amazing friends. In 2017 I was nominated by two of them, Marcus and Emma, for Keith Fenner’s What’s In Your Box competition, and I was lucky enough to win some life changing (and confidence building) tools and support.
